Admin FAQs
Lots of interest has been raised about Tangst admins (how to become one, what do they do, perks, etc) in the past, and the issue has come up again. So here are some answers to the most frequently asked questions. If I miss any, just leave a comment, and someone will edit the post to include the question and answer.
Q: What is the difference between being a Tangst admin and being a listed contributor?
A: Contributors are just people with Blogger user IDs that wanted to be put on the list. They don't have any responsibilities. Tangst admins actually have to do things, like move comments on the "Share A Secret" post to the main page.
Q: How do I become a contributor?
A: In order to become a contributor, simply send me an e-mail with your e-mail address (or the e-mail address you want to use). I'll send you an invite to the blog. All you'd have to do is accept.
Q: How do I become an admin?
A: Becoming an admin is slightly harder. Previous to this, I hadn't really thought of the qualities of all the admins. The first one that comes to mind is that I know all of the admins in real life. That being said, it's the only way I know they're trustworthy. I've known all the admins for at least as long as Tangst has been running, most for longer. I have to be able to trust the admins. They have only slightly less control over the site than I do.
Q: What are the perks of being a contributor?
A: There really aren't that many besides being able to post directly to the main page; you don't have to wait for one of the admins to see your post in order for it to be shown. This is really great if you're in another time zone (anything besides EST). The admins have been trying to sleep recently, so most posts that go up past midnight don't get posted until at least 5 or 6 hours later. This is especially true on the weekends. So I guess the main perk is that you get your own ID.
Q: What are the perks of being an admin?
A: You basically get a lot of control over the site. Other admins are the reason I started the archives. Admins have access to the template, all the posts, settings, etc. That's why I shudder at the thought of a true admin war. It's also why I absolutely have to trust the people I made admins. They could completely destroy the site and delete everything that goes along with it.
Oh, I was supposed to be discussing perks. The unconditional love is nice. Bantering with the other admins because you know who they are is good too.
Q: Just because I'm curious, who are the current admins?
A: The list of current admins are sithgirl, PChis, 龙年, knight_racer979, DoctorAnonymous, TintedFragipan, Hannah, thewordofrashi, SD, Nanotyrannus, SwalesT'shooth, and Graffiti Pastry.

Suddenly, I am seeing lots of edit marks on all of the posts. I apparently have the ability to delete anyone's comments. Does that mean that I have now been granted the coveted admin status?
Yes, Rashi, you're an admin now. Congrats!
