Bouncing ideas is fun. And it helps.
Over the next week or so, I'll be fleshing out plans for, and hopefully implementing, an additional navigation system.
With the increase in overall posting, and the huge increase in the site's daily activity and popularity, having the "Popular Posts" section on the sidebar isn't as useful (or as practical) as it used to be. I'm either going to change it to a system with "Classic Posts" where there's one post that I think best highlights each issue that's appeared on the site multiple times (ex. falling for one of your friends, the homosexuality debate, suicide, drug use, sex, crushes on teachers) OR a system where those categories are instead used to sort all the posts and show only the ones relating to that topic. It would be a lot like the "Navigation" part of the sidebar on Sonder. If anyone else has any ideas, let me know. Any comments on the two ideas I presented are incredibly welcome.
The entire idea is to improve the usability of the site. I really stress over user-friendliness and I know that digging through the Archives on Tangst sucks. The monthly setup on the side isn't that helpful if you're looking for a specific post or a certain type of post. Having to read through all the posts for a month in search of one particular post isn't fun. I've done it.
Basically, the point of this blog is to improve communcation between the administrators and the users so that the site evolves and improves. Tangst isn't perfect and there are a lot of problems. Hopefully, as I learn more HTML and web design features, things will get much better.
User criticisms/suggestions* are welcomed and encouraged, because I'll only think of so many things myself. You can either leave comments here, or e-mail me at my.tangst@gmail.com. By now, everyone knows how obsessive I am about checking my e-mail, so responses should be rather quick. And if you don't feel like e-mailing or leaving a comment, you can always just catch me during school (if you're an Enloe person).
*Do remember, though, that if your criticism is just "This site sucks" my response will be "So don't visit."
Happy posting.
