Naming Success?

I found this post by another blogger while I was procrastinating on homework by searching through random blogs. It's rather interesting.

The article is about how names affect the success of products and companies. I read through the article thinking about its relevance to Tangst. Of the 4 characteristics/strategies mentioned, I'm pretty sure Tangst just naturally has the first two. We've gained the third over time, but the fourth we aren't ever going to get.

I may be completely wrong on all of this, but I wanted to share my thoughts with everyone.

*Edit: I just read this article on the same blog, but it's more relevant. I'm rather surprised that in naming Tangst, I did all of the tips without knowing it. I guess I'm just talented like that.

That's pretty cool, actually.

It looks to me like Tangst has got almost all of the tips and ideas at both the links pretty well nailed. The one mentioned in the post (fourth item of the first article) isn't us, but it isn't applicable, so it's all good.

Nice job, Heather.

Not to burst the marketing brilliance bubble, but several people that I've told tangst about haven't bothered to look at the site mainly because of the name. It sounded too whiny and juvenile to them, but I guess in the end that's what were aiming for. If someone is in tangst denial then they don't really belong here, do they?

you just have to explain to people that it started whiny, but it's changed into something else, and that they should check it out once our twice. I've hooked a few people.

As to that post: you think that the 4th isn't applicable, but just wait till 3 becomes huge and you just add some little inconspicuous advertisement and even that generates enough cash for a couple domain names or whatever. Rome wasn't build in a day you know ;)
